The geosynthetic membrane, also called polyethylene geomembrane or impermeable membrane, is produced using milky white semi-transparent polyethylene resin as raw material. There are three main construction methods for geomembranes: 1. Hot-melt welding, 2. KS adhesive bonding for geomembranes, 3. Special adhesive tape for geomembranes. A brief introduction to these three methods is as follows:
1. Hot-melt Welding Method
Geomembrane welding uses an automatic tracking welding machine, employing double-bead hot-melt welding. The working mode is extrusion type, with a weld overlap width of 10 cm. When using a tracking welding machine, the following points should be noted:
1. The welding steps for the tracking welding machine are: turn on the power, adjust the temperature, and set the speed.
2. Before welding, the overlapping areas of two adjacent geomembranes should be cleaned and free of oil, dust, sand, dew, or other debris.
3. Before formal welding, take a sample of the same material from the site for test welding, followed by a peel test. Once the test passes, welding can proceed according to the speed and temperature settings used at the time. During welding, the operation of the tracking welding machine should be monitored at all times.
4. No slipping or skipping should occur during the welding process.
5. For long seams, weld the transverse seams first, then the longitudinal seams.
6. The welding machine should not move at right angles, and some excess geomembrane should be left during installation to prevent deformation due to large temperature changes.
2. KS Adhesive Bonding Method for Geomembranes
The KS adhesive for geomembranes, also known as KS hot-melt adhesive, is solid at room temperature. During use, it should be heated in a pot and applied with a brush to the surface of the geomembrane to emulsify it and complete the bonding. The strength of this bond is lower than that of welding with a tracking welding machine.
3. Special Adhesive Tape for Geomembranes
Special adhesive tape for geomembranes comes in single-sided and double-sided types and is convenient to use. This tape is similar to commonly used double-sided tape. Each roll is ten meters long. For good adhesion, the areas of the adjacent geomembranes to be bonded must be cleaned before application.
